Toyota plans big production cut in China

TOKYO--Toyota Motor Corp. plans to drastically slash production in China this month, possibly by around 50% from the initially planned level, Japanese media reported Friday.

Toyota's new car sales in China in September appear to have been less than 50% of the initial target due to anti-Japan protests there, the Nikkei reported.

The auto maker will determine the production volume for October depending on sales and inventory, the Nikkei said. It added that the firm plans to stop exports of the Lexus line of luxury cars and other models from Japan until November.

Toyota's factories in China have been shut for the country's National Day holiday period. They will reopen Monday. But inventories are building up due to slow sales, and there is no prospect for a recovery in new car sales.

　　新浪财经讯 北京时间9月5日上午消息，路透社引述消息人士报道称，丰田汽车9月份在中国的汽车销量同比下滑约40%至5万辆，可能会导致该公司无法完成今年在华销量达到100万辆的目标。

　　这比之2011年9月8.6万的销量下滑幅度较大，但是高于日本《读卖新闻》此前报道的数据。该报称丰田9月份在中国的销量比之8月份的7.5万辆减半。(史歌)
