QUANAH, Texas (AP) - A 53-year-old Northwest Texas parolee has a new 33-year prison term after his conviction for unlawful possession of body armor.
Dale Thomas Burns was sentenced after a two-day jury trial in Hardeman County.
Burns was arrested last August at his home in Quanah after prison officials determined he removed a GPS ankle monitor he was ordered to wear as a condition of his release from a 60-year sentence in 1991 for cocaine delivery. He acknowledged to state troopers during a search of his home that he had a bulletproof vest, found in a closet. Possession is illegal for convicted felons.
According to District Attorney Staley Healty, Burns had previous convictions for burglary, resisting arrest, evading arrest, theft and delivery of a controlled substance.
