这个500佳名录在2005年单独发行成书，由Steven Van Zandt（美国乐手/演员/制作人/主持人，是布鲁斯•斯普林斯廷的东大街乐队的成员之一，曾在美剧The Sopranos中扮演Silvio Dante）撰写引言。这次成书发行的名单与最初的名单有轻微的不同，添加了OutKast乐队的Auemini专辑(1998)，而且排名顺序也有所变化，Chuck Berry的The Great Twenty-Eight专辑(1982)排名略有下降。
这个500佳名录具有明显的时代倾向，尤其青睐于20世纪60和70年代，因此在公诸于世后也激起了各种反响。在名单公布后，美国著名摇滚乐评人Jim DeRogatis（曾于1995-1996年当过《滚石》音乐杂志编辑，但在写了一篇关于Hootie & the Blowfish的Fairweather Johnson专辑（1996）的负面评论之后，因激怒了《滚石》的老板，被《滚石》解雇。）在2004年结集出版了一部书叫做《杀死你的偶像：新生代乐评人重评经典》(Kill Your Idols: A New Generation of Rock Writers Reconsiders the Classics)。这本书收集了一些年轻乐评人对于《滚石》杂志高度评价的诸多“经典”唱片的不同意见，包括DeRogatis本人对名单上排列第一位的披头士乐队的《Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band》专辑(1967)的评点。
《滚石》杂志盘点500张史上最好的唱片，排在第一位的是披头士的《Sgt.PeppersLonely Heart Club Band》，这张唱片于1967年在伦敦诞生，虽然年代久远，但是仍然深受乐迷推崇，登上了冠军宝座。而相当出人意料的是，猫王的唱片前十大不入，而近期备受关注的迈克尔•杰克逊只入前二十。
排前3名的唱片分别是：第一名的《Sgt.Pepper＇sLonely Hearts Club Band》(披头士)；第二名的《PetSounds》(海滩男孩)；第三名的《Revolver》(披头士)。从评选的结果来看，披头士可以说是大赢家，因为披头士除了《Sgt.Pepper＇sLonelyHeartsClubBand》这张唱片排名第一外，还有另外3张唱片入选前十名，分别是排在第3位的《Revolver》，排在第5位的《RubberSoul》和排在第10位的《TheBeatles“TheWhiteAlbum” 》，相当厉害。

当历史不停向前趋驶时，有些人永远是走在历史的前端，为历史留下脚注，而其中Bob Dylan便是这么一位开创历史先河的吟游民谣诗人。
这是第56届柏林电影节的闭幕影片是1973年上映的西部片《比利小子》(Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid)的特别版。《比利小子》讲述的是在1881年的新墨西哥，一个名叫派特·加勒特(Pat Garrett)的人被被委任为警长，追捕自己从前好友比利小子(Billy the Kid)的故事。比利小子是美国历史上的传奇罪犯，真名为威廉·邦尼(William Bonney)，他年轻时四处流浪，最擅长的就是拔枪射击，据说他从拔枪到射击只要0.3秒。比利小子曾经谋杀了21个人，最后为派特·加勒特所击杀。（扯远了哈。。。）
整张专辑都挺不错的，特别选出这首敲开天堂之门作为推荐。是首广为传唱的名曲啊，我想即使没听过BOB Dylan原唱版本的朋友们，应该也有听过艾薇儿，枪花，艾瑞克克莱普顿等众明星的翻唱版本吧。
