Rowing meant that on the way to school I had to sit in the dirty bus
aisle littered with paper, gum wads, and spitballs. Then I had to simulate
the motion of rowing while the kids around me laughed and chanted, “Row, row, row the bus.” I was forced to do this by a group of bullies who
spent most of their time picking on me.
