[绝望] John Nash, Nobel prize winner, dies in crash
John Nash, a Nobel prize winner in economics who was the subject of the movie “A Beautiful Mind,” died, along with his wife, in a traffic crash in New Jersey on Saturday, New Jersey State Police said.
Nash, 86, and his wife, Alicia Nash, 82, were in a taxi on the New Jersey Turnpike when it crashed while trying to pass another vehicle, according to reports.
The Nashes were ejected from the taxi and died at the scene. No criminal charges have been filed.
The Nashes were returning from Norway, where John Nash and Louis Nirenberg, a mathematician from New York University, had received the Abel Prize from The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
Nash was awarded the Nobel prize in economics in 1994 for his work on game theory. He was a professor at Princeton University.
“We are stunned and saddened by news of the untimely passing of John Nash and his wife and great champion, Alicia,” said Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber in a statement. “Both of them were very special members of the Princeton University community. John’s remarkable achievements inspired generations of mathematicians, economists and scientists who were influenced by his brilliant, groundbreaking work in game theory, and the story of his life with Alicia moved millions of readers and moviegoers who marveled at their courage in the face of daunting challenges.”
Nash was a faculty member at MIT from 1951 to 1959. While there, he met and married Alicia Larde, an MIT graduate in physics, and contended with paranoid schizophrenia. Nash was at McLean Hospital in Belmont in 1959.
Nash was the subject of the 2001 movie “A Beautiful Mind,” winner of the Academy Award for best picture. Russell Crowe, who portrayed Nash, tweeted that he was “stunned,” by his death. “An amazing partnership,” he wrote. “Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts.” |
